This course is suitable for those who have some previous experience of drawing geometric patterns. All steps will be demonstrated and explained in the videos and PDFs so that students can replicate the patterns using ruler and compass or software, although the focus is on ruler and compass drawing.

It is intended to be a follow-on course to extend the patterns taught in the course Introduction 14pt Star Patterns, but the designs can be drawn as standalone motifs without reference to that course.

In this course we will draw the 14pt star motif along with 4 variations which can be used in it’s place. In the closing presentation I will demonstrate how you can use this set of motifs to vary the rhythm and texture of your 14-fold star patterns.

In the videos I will guide you through the process of drawing the patterns on paper with ruler and compass. I will share insights into the construction and drawing process as we go through it in real time.

here is also a presentation in which I will take an analytical view of the patterns and the underlying geometry as well as demonstrating how these motifs can be used in the context of pattern making.
